Wages in the UAE: keep a clear payment record

Connect the written pay arrangement with current official WPS guidance and factual records.

A clear pay arrangement needs more than a total on an offer letter. Employees should understand what each amount represents and keep a record of what was paid. Employers need an orderly way to explain and correct discrepancies. The UAE Government’s salary-payment page, updated on 5 June 2026, refers to Ministerial Resolution 340 of 2026 on the Wages Protection System. Its current guidance should be checked rather than relying on a forwarded summary of older rules.

This HEYVN guide offers a practical record-keeping method. It does not decide whether a particular deduction, payment delay or employment category is lawful. For a salary concern, use MoHRE or the authority responsible for the employer, and check the current official complaint route instead of relying on an unverified intermediary.

Understand the written components

Keep the offer, employment contract and any written explanation of pay together. Identify the basic amount, allowances and any separately described variable payment. If commission or another variable amount is discussed, ask how it is recorded, when it becomes due and who confirms the calculation.

Do not describe an expected variable payment as guaranteed income. When comparing offers, distinguish a confirmed recurring amount from an estimate. If two documents appear to say different things, ask the employer to clarify the discrepancy before relying on the more attractive figure.

Keep records that help answer a question

Retain the relevant payslip or payment statement and your own bank or approved payment-provider record. Note the period covered, the amount received and the issue you need explained. A short chronology is often more useful than a long collection of unrelated screenshots.

Protect account and identity information when seeking help. Share evidence through the appropriate private channel and only with a person authorised to handle the matter. Do not place salary records or a full bank statement on a public professional profile.

For employers: investigate before giving a vague answer

Give an employee a clear contact and a way to report an apparent mismatch. Check the underlying pay period, approved terms and payment record. Explain a correction or an unresolved question in plain language rather than asking the employee to guess what a payroll code means.

Maintain a reliable handover between supervisors and payroll for information that affects pay. A process should identify who checks the facts and who communicates the result. Do not treat an internal spreadsheet alone as proof that a payment reached its intended recipient.

Use the current authority route for unresolved concerns

Read the official salary guidance for the relevant employment regime. The Government page directs private-sector workers with salary concerns to MoHRE and its complaint services. Other employment arrangements may need a different competent authority. Confirm the correct route before submitting private documents.

Avoid inventing a deadline or assuming that a commonly repeated penalty schedule still applies. Keep the source date and current service instructions visible in your own records. Clear evidence and a correctly identified authority support a more useful discussion for both employees and employers.
